03:10 pm - A classic
Just received this email from a mate whose mother recently died (names deliberately obsured by me) ...

I had to send an email to Rushmoor council as they'd sent my mum a bus
pass, even though I'd told them she had died in November. This is
their reply, it's a classic.

08:56 pm - Cheesecake - the final result

Posted by ShoZu

Made a sort of coulee with the bilberries and blackberries and kept a few back for the topping. Mmm. Was good! Still have 6 slices left :)

11:53 pm - Cheesecake
Cheese. Cake. Cheese. In a cake.

It's the future!

Well so said Peter Kay.

Today I made a 'NewYork Style' baked cheesecake.

It's in the fridge chillin' at the moment.

So readers - should it be eaten 'au naturel' or should I put some
sort of topping on it? If topping then what?

Lots of nice fruit about at the moment, but for some reason I'm thinking
choclate buttons would be good.

What do you reckon?

03:06 pm - A Challenge
A challenge for you.

Myself and Austin can't do level 14 of this:-

http://www.candystand.com/play/electric-box

I think we are both very close.

If I could just get the last fan in place a bit quicker I'd have it cracked.

If you take up the challenge and crack it please post a screen shot of the starting position.

Conside a gauntlet thrown in your face!

11:12 am - Tits
Ah...there's nothing like seeing a bird sucking on my fat balls, or watching a pair of great tits resting on my nut sack.

Yes - when I moved into my new house I inherited a few bird feeders and I have since been experimenting
with various foodstuffs to see what they like and don't like. So far we've been getting great tits, blue tits, sparrows,
robins, pigeons, magpies and we even saw a jay the other day.

A couple of squirrels have also been seen which if they persist will soon find themselves to be ex-squirrels.

So what birds do you get in your garden and what (if anything) do you feed them?

12:44 pm - Google Wave
Just watched the google i/o keynote speech on "google wave" over at wave.google.com.

I never thought it would happen but I think I've just seen the beginning of the end of email!

Well, email as we know it.

I love this quote from http://linkbee.com/7MB7 :-

"“We’re going to reinvent communication, we just need 100 engineers who can go off to Australia for a while, and we’ll get back to you in a few years,” Brin recalled them saying. But executives decided to bet on the brothers’ track record. “We decided, collectively, to give them the benefit of the doubt.”"

The brothers refered too are the guys who came up with google maps.

If you can't be arsed to watch the demo (it's over an hour long) there's a decent list of what it does here: http://venturebeat.com/2009/05/28/wave-googles-take-on-the-future-of-communication/

I know I have a few geeks/teachers/academic types on my flist.

If that sounds like you, you may like to have a play with http://www92.wolframalpha.com/ .

If it doesn't sound like you then you may want to play with it anyway.

Note : It's a alpha version but you can see it's potential.

03:55 pm - Predictive text

What's the first word you get on your phone if you use predictive text and type the word 'Thus'?

I get 'tits' on my nokia.

I slight glitch in their algorithm I feel.

Or does 'tits' really occur more frequently than 'Thus'?

10:27 am - Theory of intelligeance
From 'Cheers':

'Well you see, Norm, it's like this . . . A herd of buffalo can only

move as fast as the slowest buffalo . And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest

and weakest ones at the back that are killed first . This natural selection

is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the

whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members .

In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the

slowest brain cells . Now, as we know, excessive intake of alcohol kills

brain cells . But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells

first .    In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker

brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine . And

that, Norm, is why you always feel smarter after a few beers . '

So what do you make of this hand then?

My pre-flop raise was a bluff based on position to steal the blinds as only one person had limped in. Still - it turned out alright in the end!

I suppose he/she could have got full- house on the river...

04:54 pm - How To Poach An Egg Using A Tuna Tin

In an effort to get teh internets to tell me the best way to poach an egg I just watched this:

http://www.videojug.com/film/how-to-poach-an-egg-using-a-tuna-tin

Anyway, having reviewed the various methods (of which I've tried most),
what's your prefered fool proof egg poaching technique?

How would you do 4 eggs (say) so that they we ready at the same time?
(See this is where the whirlpool method fails for me)

10:17 am - More Wii / iplayer

Further to yesterdays post (thanks for nothing), I added the Internet channel to my Wii and tried out the iplayer on it.

S'alright!

Cost £3:50 to do it but that seems worth it for on-demand telly - on my telly!

And I get to surf from the couch without having to fire up the PC - but it's not something you'd want
to do if involved a lot of typing.

Anybody added the Wii internet channel?

Is it worth it (£3:50)?

And have you tried the iplayer using it? Any good?
